It was hard to say how exactly the land came to be, but no one concerned themselves with such frivolous details, and thus, no one questioned it. The true name of the land had long since been forgotten, changed so many times throughout the ages due to war and natural disasters. In the present age, however, many residents – and intelligent beasts even – had taken to calling the world Valii: the God of all things with beating hearts, granting Life, Death and Rebirth.
Rumors and aged tomes however, leave very vague details of a time when the world did have a name, and with it, a story of a terrifyingly powerful and corrupted soul. Whether or not it was his true name, the books and the tongues of the ancients referred to him only as Avarice. The blood of the innocent was spilled time and time again by this entity, and as one reads further into the tale, it becomes hard to distinguish whether this being was indeed a man, or a demon.
Finally, a group of the wisest Sage’s and strongest of spell casters came to a conclusion: Avarice needed to be stopped. And thus, they developed a plan of attack. Every second spent dwelling was one more fragment of time that Avarice was allowed to kill, torment and destroy. It took weeks, but finally their plan was set. If they couldn’t kill this Hell spawn, they’d seal him away. Death was unavoidable for the brave beings that stepped up to do this, but in the end, they had been successful. The soul of Avarice was sealed away using both powerful spells and mystical artifacts, never to be released.
Peace had finally arrived. The people celebrated, and statues built in honor of the brave sages can be seen in many villages across the land. However, to every light there is a shadow. Those of the darker arts seek to find a way to free Avarice in hopes of gaining his power.
Valii have mercy on us should that dark day occur…
